Birkdale

Reviews

We spent a lovely September weekend at the fantastic Birkdale House, and while we were only a small group (due to Covid restrictions) we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

There is a real “wow factor” to the first sight of the main building and gardens, and it feels like you are transported back in time to a much grander era. Once inside, each room is superbly furnished, and truly luxurious.

The superb basement games room adds to family atmosphere, and provides a great lounging area if the grandeur of the reception rooms leaves you a little nervous with smaller guests.

The fully equipped kitchen was wasted on us, simply because we found the huge fire pit in the garden just too good an opportunity to miss.

Upstairs the bedrooms are all well appointed, and the beds extremely welcoming, especially after enjoying a short walk to the local viewing points which are literally on the doorstep.

All in all, we had a great stay, and we can only hope that one day we can return with a bigger family group, and really do the place justice.

“We had a wonderful weekend at Birkdale House for my husband’s special birthday. The house is very much a home from home with all the creature comforts you could need with a little bit of added luxury.

As it was a special birthday, we had booked some extra events such as in-house massages, a skippered boat day and an in-house Michelin-star chef dining experience, all of which were fabulous!

All the events were organised by Rachael who was exceptionally thoughtful (and patient with my never ending emails of requests prior to us arriving) and helped make the weekend one we won’t forget.

Thank you to everyone.”

What an amazing week at Birkdale house!!

The location of the house was perfect. Set within private grounds in what felt like rural countryside but was only a ten minute walk from Bowness town centre and a five minute drive to Booths!

Every detail has been carefully considered and the result was a wonderful stay with all the amenities we could require. The small details of welcome hamper, freshly cut flowers within the house and bathrobes was a real treat.

The kids enjoyed the table football/pool room, alongside the large cinema room to the ‘big green egg’, perfect for barbecuing a delicious joint purchased from Jo McGrath at Yew Tree Farm.

A big thank you also to Rachael who was able to assist with a few small queries to ensure our stay was as comfortable as possible.

We would most definitely visit again … a real gem!!

“Just wanted to say how sad we all were to leave this morning and head home. I can categorically say that the few teething problems did not mar a fantastic week away. We managed to do everything we wanted to do and the house was perfect, meeting all our requirements.  We didn’t want to eat out so we really appreciated the kitchen and dining room and the kids loved the outside spaces and the basement which was a blessing for us as well as they kept disappearing requiring very little input from us!”

If you have never been to the Lake District before and want to get away from it all with a group of friends or family, this place is the epitome of a small lakes estate. It provides great comfort and historic views in a totally private peaceful place, a stone’s throw from the Windermere action

We loved the property. It exceeded our expectations. The house was spotless and the position couldn’t have been better.
