Fell Ponies

We are thrilled to have teamed up with Tom Lloyd and his herd of native fell ponies to be able to offer you a truly unique experience – a day exploring the meadows, woods and fells on the Matson Ground Estate, where everything is carried by the ponies. You will meet the ponies in the morning, load up their packsaddles with the day’s essentials, including a picnic lunch, blankets and a shelter, and off you go. All you need to bring are some warm clothes, a waterproof jacket, some sturdy footwear and, most importantly, a sense of adventure. This is a fantastic day out, a chance to explore the 473-hectare Matson Ground Estate, taking in the stunning views of Lake Windermere and the Lake District Fells. It is suitable for families and groups of all ages and is the perfect way to get up close to these wonderful ponies. Tom is an experienced mountain leader so you’re in safe hands. He is also very patient. If you’re at all uneasy around horses, he soon puts you at ease so that you can relax and enjoy your day.
