Brant Fell

Brant Fell is just a few hundred yards (as the crow flies) from Birkdale House, so it’s a relatively easy walk. The views from the top are stunning and well worth any effort – the perfect spot for a quick picnic.

Orrest Head

Just a short stroll from Windermere village, Orrest Head offers panoramic views over Lake Windermere and the surrounding fells. Pack a hamper and follow the gentle ascent to the summit, where you’ll be rewarded with a spectacular picnic setting.

Tarn Hows

If it’s tranquillity you’re after, Tarn Hows is a firm favourite with people of all ages. Follow the circular trail around this picturesque tarn, find a secluded spot and enjoy your picnic. The easy paths make it perfect for families, and the views are simply unforgettable.

Gummers How

Another favourite for families, Gummers How is a short but steep climb that rewards you with stunning views of Windermere. It’s a fantastic adventure for children, offering a sense of achievement without being too challenging. The summit is an excellent spot for a well-deserved picnic.

Wray Castle

For a touch of history with your picnic, head to Wray Castle. The National Trust property boasts stunning views across Windermere, with plenty of space to spread out on the lawns.

Fell Foot Park

Our final picnic spot is Fell Foot Park, a haven for families. With a playground, café, and even the opportunity for a spot of boating, there’s something for everyone. Find a peaceful spot on the banks of Windermere and soak up the sunshine. Just be aware that you might have to share your space with the ducks.
