Summer at Holker Hall

BACK
Birkdale

2nd July 2021

Holker Hall has been home to the Cavendish family since 1756 and is one of the Lake District’s best-known historic properties. It sits at the heart of the Holker Estate, a busy and diverse estate, covering some 17,000 acres of beautiful countryside in England’s South Lakeland. Surrounding the hall itself are two-hundred acres of parkland which are grazed by a herd of fallow deer.

Holker Hall will reopen to the public on 21 July; however, the extensive gardens can be explored now and are well worth the trip. There is also a gift shop, food hall, courtyard café and the Ilex Brasserie.

Throughout the year, Holker Hall hosts a calendar of events and we’ve highlighted a few below which will be taking place over the Summer.

Tales of Oz at Holker Hall – Saturday 10 July

A chance for your children to meet the Cowardly Lion, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and of course Dorothy, as they search for the Wizard of Oz in the Emerald City. The Handlebards Present Macbeth – Friday 20 and Saturday 21 August

The Handlebards are a four-strong troupe of actors who spend the summer pedalling from venue to venue with all their set, props and costumes on the back of their bikes. This Summer they will be bringing environmentally sustainable Shakespeare to Holker Hall, performing Macbeth in the stunning grounds. And forget the tears and tragedy associated with Macbeth. This show is full of beans. All the information and relevant links can be found here.

Holker Hall Chilli Fest – Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 September

The final event in the Holker Hall summer calendar is the Holker Chilli Fest. This two-day festival welcomes chilli companies from all over the country, as well as local specialist food suppliers. There is cuisine from around the world and a variety of fiery food-inspired gifts. And don’t worry if you’re not a fan of heat, there’s plenty of food and family entertainment for non-spice lovers to enjoy. For more information about the Holker Chilli Fest, click here.

Whether it’s a chilli-inspired day out, a love of Shakespeare or simply a wander around the gardens, Holker Hall is a great day out for the whole family.
